Do golf cart laser mounts really work?

Do golf cart laser mounts really work?

After using a handheld GPS unit for more than 7 years, I grew tired of only getting readings to the front, middle and back of the greens on my course (it has elevated greens). Recently, I took that plunge and purchased a new Bushnell Pro X2 with the Slope Edition. It’s my opinion that I get the best use out of the Bushnell when mounting it directly to the cart, instead of leaving the laser unit to roll around in the cart’s cubby.

After some searching, I found a laser unit mount called the Caddie Buddy. The Caddie Buddy offers numerous mounting types – and they had one specifically for a laser range finder that attaches directly to a golf cart!

First off, the Bushnell Pro X2 does not have a tripod hole in the bottom or side of the laser unit, which is found on most other laser units. Fortunately, the Caddie Buddy came with a strap that you can place around the laser, and then put that into the mount. Honestly I was very skeptical as to whether this strap would hold my laser without it dropping. Regardless, I posted pictures below showing the strap that they supplied, which uses a band secured by Velcro to wrap the entire laser unit, and then there is a button-type clip that is used to clip onto the part that attaches to the golf cart’s front windshield area (pictures are below showing this). It’s very simple to put the strap on the laser unit, and just as simple to attach it to the golf cart mount.

I was eager to take the Caddie Buddy mount, using the supplied strap, for a true test. On the first few holes I tried to drive the cart slower than normal, just in case the unit fell off. To my surprise, the laser did not fall or come loose. It was also very easy to take on and off when I wanted to get yardages, which I did at least once on almost every hole. It worked true and was flawless.

Surprisingly, the Caddie Buddy (using the supplied strap) performed like a champ. The unit never fell off or had any type of performance issue. I was very pleased with the unit after 18 holes. I am so satisfied with the Caddie Buddy laser mount that I plan on using it every time I play. It was really nice not to throw my laser unit in the cart and have it rock around and possibly get damaged. I can say that if it works on my course (very bumpy cart paths), I see no reason why it wouldn’t work on any other course. It was truly put to the test and passed!
