How To Read the Greens Just Like the Tour Pro’s!

The weakest part of my golf game is putting. I find it quite difficult to read the breaks in the greens, especially on putts going sideways or up and down hills. I’ve tried numerous things and there are some very good products like Sure Putt (which I’ve reviewed) which help, but I wanted to know all the breaks similar to what the Tour Pro’s know. They get these awesome green books at each event which shows all the breaks from any part of the green. I’ve tried number aids (see my past review of Sure Putt) which help my game, but I want to know all the breaks that the Tour Pro’s know. NOTE: Tour Pro’s are given awesome “green books” at each event, which shows every break from any part of the green.

After seeing a commercial on the Golf Channel for Golf Logix and their app with Putt Breaks Green Reading Ability, , I decided to give it a try. Golf Logix was offering a free 30 day trial, so there was nothing to lose. I downloaded the app on my iPhone and easily found my home course. If your golf course is not listed within the app, you can submit a request to Golf Logix to map your golf course greens – the more people that ask for a particular golf course the faster they will get it mapped.

Pictured below is a screen shot of what the 1st green at my home course looks like on the app. As pictured, there’s a lot going on so it does take some time to really understand which way the putt will break. I tested the app and the Putt Breaks Green Reading Feature in the early evening, as I know my course is typically very slow at that time. I took 10-15 minutes and really tested the way the putts were breaking, based upon the app’s instruction, from several positions on the green where a pin could be placed.

After using the Putts Breaks Green feature on the app for 6 greens, I can say the app was extremely accurate. I felt like a Tour Pro as I read the greens. I also took notes on each green so the next time playing I’d know exactly which way the ball would break, based upon the placement of the pin. Again, this takes time to do, and you certainly can’t use the app during any competitions, but you can use your hand written notes at anytime. I used my notes on those same greens during the next few rounds of play, which has helped me to become a much improved greens reader. .

After about a month, I finally got through all 18 of my course’s greens and have a pretty accurate notebook that I keep with me. I think that Golf Logix’s app is a great concept and I now have much more confidence on my home course’s greens. When I play on an unfamiliar golf course, I believe that I now have a better understanding of how to better read greens which has helped lower my overall scores and handicap. The app proved very helpful, accurate and it works!

Included in the app is GPS for each hole to the front, middle and back pin positions, stat tracking and tools to use on and off the golf course. The company website is www.golflogix.com, and I suggest visiting their website to learn more about the app and the pricing that fit’s your needs best after the free trial period.
